Hymenoptera Collections Management

The Museums Hymenoptera collection has been in the Darwin Centre building since 2009 where it is accessible to today’s international community of Hymenoptera researchers.

Hymenoptera specimens are carefully preserved in a variety of ways:

  • dry pinned specimens
  • microscope slides
  • preserved in fluid, including larvae and galls
  • boxed items, mainly nests

All the species in the collection are databased. Items in the nest collection are databased individually.
