Research visits to the fossil mammal collections

Researchers wishing to visit the fossil mammal collections at the Natural History Museum should give us at least several working days notice of:

  • intended visits
  • materials likely to be used

This is to help us to respond to user needs, such as checking for potential users of material stored offsite at Wandsworth in south London that the site is operational and that staff are available to supervise visits.

Potential visitors should be aware that:

  1. There are historical biases in the collections towards large, exhibitable material.
  2. The online specimen database isn’t yet complete. We are working to redress this with a major databasing project and would appreciate help with collections-related data wherever possible.
