Education

PhD – Doctor of Philosophy, The University of Reading, Reading, UK, 2003
Thesis: Systematic revision of the genus Doryopteris J. Sm. (Pteridaceae-Cheilanthoideae). Supervisors: Dr Alastair Culham (Reading University) and Dr Mary Gibby (Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh).

MSc -  Universidade Federal do Paraná/Curitiba, Paraná State, Brazil, March 1991-Jan. 1993.  Project: Levantamento floristico do genero Diplazium (Dryopteridaceae) no Estado do Paraná, Brazil. Supervisor: Dr Jefferson Prado (Instituto de Botanica, Sao Paulo, Brazil).

Degree: Biology, Universidade Federal do Paraná/Curitiba, Paraná State, Brazil, March1983- Aug 1987.

Curation

Curatorial Management

Collections Manager of the Cryptogamic Group, which comprises the Pteridophyte, Bryophyte, Algae (including Diatoms) and Lichen collections, with a total around of 2 millions specimens.

Curator of Diatoms: at the moment this role is being shared with the Algae Curator.

Additional duties
Line manages a team of 11 curatorial staff members (Cryptogamic Curators, including from the Seed Plant Herbarium, Curator assistants, Plant mounters and Loans officers).

Research

My interests and experience range from inventory (vegetation survey), identification of Neotropical flowering plants and ferns (including training/capacity building), with special interest on phylogenetic studies of the Cheilanthoideae fern genus: Doryopteris (Pteridadeceae).
