Employment history

2008 - Present:     Digitisation Technician. Department of Botany, Natural History Museum. Performing the data entry (KE EMu database) and scanning of type specimens of bryophytes for the Global Plants Initiative.

2007 - 2008:     LAPI Digitisation Officer. Herbarium, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Carried out computerised databasing (HerbCat database) and scanning of type specimens of Latin American angiosperm plants. Participated in and contributed to in-house training and coaching activities for botanists and technicians from Latin America, Africa and Europe.

2005 - 2006:     Curatorial Assistant. Department of Natural Sciences, Royal Cornwall Museum. Documented (MODES database), digitally photographed, and surveyed the museum’s natural history collections (largely made up of insects, molluscs and British herbarium specimens). Involved in a vast range of activities related to the caring and using of these collections as well as dealing with enquiries from academic researchers and the general public.

1986 - 1998:    Oceanographer. Departamento de Oceanografía, Servicio de Oceanografía, Hidrografía y Meteorología de la Armada (SOHMA), Montevideo, Uruguay. Participated in and co-developed scientific surveys and research activities focussed on the oceanographic and ecological conditions in Maxwell Bay (King George Island, Antarctica), the Uruguayan Atlantic coast and Río de la Plata estuary; performed field and laboratory work on Antarctic lichens.
