Research

X-ray element map of a lunar meteorite.

An X-ray element map of the lunar meteorite Dhofar 908. Blue=Mg, Green=Ca, and Red=Mg. The image is mostly blue because of an Al-rich mineral called anorthite, which covers much of the surface of the moon. This is a brecciated rock, consisting of many different clasts. The brecciation was caused by impact events.  

Interests

My research interests are in the formation and evolution of the Solar System and have several strands: 

  • Chondritic meteorites that formed in pre-planetary times and which can provide clues about the environment and timescales of the early solar system.  More information
  • The early evolution of the Moon and how it acquired its volatiles. More information
  • Comets, the composition of the Sun, and Mars.
