Research

My research focuses on the investigation of magmatic processes at subduction zones; time-scales of magmatic processes and pre-eruptive magma degassing conditions at active volcanoes, lithosphere evolution and relationships between magmatism and tectonics. I approach these problems using geochemical analysis and micro-analytical techniques.

I’m also interested in developing novel analytical techniques for microanalysis both in the isotope geochemistry and electron microscopy fields.  

My main research interests are as follows:

  • Subduction zone magmatic processes (Mexico, Aegean arc, Aeolian arc) with emphasis on mantle sources, subduction components and crustal contributions (mafic  and bimodal magmatism, adakites and high-Nb basalts).
  • Timescale of magma chamber and pre-eruptive degassing behaviour in active volcanoes (Stromboli, Vesuvius, Popocatepetl).
  • Genesis of  komatiites at Gorgona Island (Colombia) and Large Igneous Province (Caribbean Plateau, Madagascar).
  • Late Cretaceous rhyolitic rocks of India and Madagascar in the light of Cretaceous India-Madagascar paleogeographic reconstruction.
