(Claw of Baryonyx walkeri) Baryonyx means 'heavy claw'. Unusually for a carnivorous dinosaur we know it ate fish as scientists have found fish scales and teeth with its fossil where its stomach would have been.

Wildlife Garden

Get close to nature and London’s wildlife

The Wildlife Garden is open from 1 April to 31 October, from 10.00 until 17.00 daily. Enter via the Darwin Centre in the Orange Zone.

You can visit at other times by appointment. Contact the Central Hall information desk on +44 (0)20 7942 5011 to arrange this.

The garden is a haven for 1000s of British plants and animals and demonstrates wildlife conservation in the inner city. Over 2,000 species have been identified in the Wildlife Garden since it opened in 1995.

What's new in the garden

Bluebells

Spring has surely sprung, with the moorhens nesting in their pond house, and our fox family has returned to its usual hide under the garden shed. Our new bee tree is swarming with 1000s of the busy buzzers. We've also spotted squirrels, wrens and mallards. And our daffodils, primroses, cowslips and bluebells are all in bloom.
