Transmission electron microscopy
Transmission electron microscope image of a section through part of the gill of the bivalve mollusc Anodontia ovum. It shows an intercalary cell surrounded by two bacteriocyte cells filled with chemosymbiotic sulphide-oxidising bacteria and glycogen granules. The intercalary cell shows several mitochondria and a golgi body. Spiruliform bacteria are in the cell lumen.
