Specialisms

Taxonomy of parasitic Nematoda and Acanthocephala. Curation and histological techniques relating to parasitic worms

Summary

I am responsible for the curation of all the collections belonging to the Parasitic Worms group of the Parasites and Vectors Division. These consist of over 500,000 specimens both in spirit and on slides. My research is concentrated on the parasitic nematodes of vertebrates. I am particularly interested in the biodiversity of parasites found in Britain and its implication for disease control and conservation. Collaboration with wildlife vets has led to publications and the discovery of species not previously known in the UK
