Summary

I am Senior Curator in Charge of the Diptera and Siphonaptera Section, which is composed of five curatorial staff and is part of the Natural History Museum's Insects Division. Our collections consist of c. 3 million specimens preserved on pins, microscope slides and in spirit, and include about 45,000 primary types. Our collections are used on a daily basis by the scientific community for ongoing taxonomic and applied research inside and outside the Museum. We make our specimens available through hosting of visiting specialists from all over the world, preparation of specimen loans and digital loans, digitisation of label data, and public display. As a curator I take care of the Diptera Acalyptratae, one of the most recently evolved and diverse lineages of true flies, which includes the fruit flies, leaf-mining flies and grass flies among others. I am involved in teaching and training, public engagement and research. My research interests are mainly focused on the systematics and diversity of the calyptrate family Sarcophagidae but I also collaborate on projects regarding other dipteran families, primarily in the Schizophora clade. I am subject editor for Zootaxa (Diptera Oestroidea & Hippoboscoidea), ZooKeys (Diptera Calyptratae) and Biodiversity Data Journal (Diptera Calyptratae).
