Specialisms

Botanical exploration in the Tropics, Collecting and preparing plants as herbarium collectons, Conservation and livelihoods project in Latin America, Outreach to the 'General Public', Plant diversity inventories (specimen based), Taxonomy and identification of the genus Cestrum (Solanaceae) from Central America, Urticaceae identification and taxonomy

Summary

I aim to generate and document plant diversity data and to use this knowledge to help conserve them and to establish and test hypotheses of relationships between taxa or areas. In doing so I aim to help meet civil society’s demands of a global taxonomic resource as articulated in the Convention on Biological Diversity, its work programme and cross-cutting issues. Foci for this are the plant family Urticaceae worldwide and the Neotropics. I currently work mainly in the Bolivian Amazon and SW China and spend 20% of my time working for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
