Summary

I am a Research Leader in the Life Sciences Department, with a particular focus on deep-sea biodiversity, Antarctic biodiversity, annelid systematics, evolution and ecology. I run a research lab with a range of active projects including: (1) The study of baseline patterns of biodiversity, biogeography and genetic connectivity in regions of interest for deep-sea mining. (2) The systematics, evolutionary origin, ecology and natural history of annelids from chemosynthetic ecosystems (hydrothermal vents, cold-seeps and organic-falls). (3) Southern Ocean and Antarctic marine diversity and ecology, including macroecological biodiversity patterns, detailed taxonomic studies and the impacts of past and future climate change. (4) Trait-based analysis of deep-sea ecosystem function in response to climate change. (5) The World Register of Deep Sea Species (a World Register of Marine Species thematic web page) and associated iOS app ‘Deep Sea ID’. (6) UK marine biodiversity on the south-west coast and DNA-quality collection enhancement for UK fauna. (7) The development and running of a micro-class Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) ultra-mobile facility for public outreach, education and research.

I run a research lab with a range of active projects including: (1) The study of baseline patterns of biodiversity, biogeography and genetic connectivity in regions of interest for deep-sea mining. (2) The systematics, evolutionary origin, ecology and natural history of annelids from chemosynthetic ecosystems (hydrothermal vents, cold-seeps and organic-falls). (3) Southern Ocean and Antarctic marine diversity and ecology, including macroecological biodiversity patterns, detailed taxonomic studies and the impacts of past and future climate change. (4) Trait-based analysis of deep-sea ecosystem function in response to climate change. (5) The World Register of Deep Sea Species (a World Register of Marine Species thematic web page) and associated iOS app ‘Deep Sea ID’. (6) UK marine biodiversity on the south-west coast and DNA-quality collection enhancement for UK fauna. (7) The development and running of a micro-class Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) ultra-mobile facility for public outreach, education and research.
