PCR set-up

The Janus automated workstation is a pipetting robot, which can be easily programmed to set up PCR plates. It is particularly useful for researchers with time consuming protocols or high throughput projects, or for staff with limited time or lab experience.

We will run your initial samples for you, enabling you to trial the workstation. Training will be provided to regular users. Prices start at £19.42 per plate for consumables and staff time depending on your method.

Museum researchers and collaborators should contact Andie Hall or Elena Lugli to discuss their requirements. Please note that you will need funds in place in order to use the service.

You will need to submit a molecular consumables stores request form, as well as a Janus Protocol form (available on request). Additives and stock primers must be provided; all other reagents and consumables are included in the price.

eDNA

Environmental DNA (eDNA) is becoming widely recognised as a powerful tool for researchers looking at a diverse range of habitats and help answer many of today’s questions about the natural world. Here in the molecular laboratories we can extract DNA from a full range of eDNA sample types.

Sequencing

The lab's sequencing team processes more than 70,000 samples per year using an Applied biosystems 3730xl DNA analyser.

The sequencing team provide a full sequencing service from DNA extraction to Sanger sequencing. Our facility also has a Miseq personal genome sequencer (Illumina) for next-generation sequencing.

We  provide a bespoke service, whatever your sample, for both internal researchers and external collaborators.

Internal users: you must fill out a sequencing submission sheet before work can commence. This can be found on the SAT intranet pages.
