Euechinolampas Pomel, 1887, p. 127

Diagnostic Features
  • Test of medium size, subcircular in outline, with a slightly pointed posterior extremity; domed in profile, with relatively flat adoral surface, slightly sunken towards the peristome.
  • Apical disc subcentral to anterior; monobasal, with four gonopores.
  • Petals well developed; bowed, parallel and open distally. Pore-pairs small and circular; subconjugate; the two columns in each petal of unequal length; pores beneath petals single.
  • Peristome subcentral, pentagonal, transverse, wider than long.
  • Periproct inframarginal and transverse; not sunken.
  • Phyllodes short, moderately developed, single pored, with two series in each half ambulacrum, plus scattered pores in between.
  • Bourrelets restricted to a distinct well leading to the peristome opening.
  • Buccal pores present.
Distribution
Eocene of Algeria to Upper Oligocene of Bulgaria according to Kier (1962).
Name gender feminine
Type
Echinolampas florescens Pomel, 1887, p. 127; by subsequent designation of Kier, 1962, p. 111.
Species Included
  • Euechinolampas florescens (Pomel, 1887); Eocene, Algeria.
Classification and/or Status

Irregularia; Cassiduloida; Echinolampadidae.

Subjective junior synonym of Echinolampas (Echinolampas) Gray, 1825.

Remarks

Euechinolampas has all the diagnostic characters of Echinolampas, with asymmetric petals (the two pore series in each petal of unequal length), an inframarginal periproct on a relatively flat adoral surface that is slightly sunken towards the peristome, and feeble bourrelets. The type species of Euechinolampas belongs to the subgenus E. (Echinolampas) as it has petals that are bowed (not straight), with subconjugate pores of almost equal size, the outer pores not greatly elongated transversely, and phyllodes with only two distinct series in each half-ambulacrum.
