Diagnostic Features
  • Test with anterior sulcus
  • Apical disc subcentral, ethmolytic
  • Paired ambulacra sunken adapically, petaloid
  • Aboral tubercles in anterior interambulacral zones large, with sunken areoles 
  • Fasciole distribution and oral plating unknown

Type Pericosmus malatinus Mazzetti, 1885, p. 13, by original designation
Species Included Dictyaster excentricus Stefanini was included tentatively by Lambert & Thiery (1925, p. 486) as probably synonymous with the type species.
Classification and/or Status Spatangoida indet.,
Remarks Lambert (1920) assumed that there were no fascioles, but, as pointed out by Mortensen (1951, p. 82) the presence or absence of fascioles is really indeterminable.  The type material reveals too few characters to allow meaningful comparison.
