Name gender | masculine |
---|---|
Type | Cidaris belone Agassiz d'Orbigny |
Species Included | Only the type species |
Classification and/or Status | Nomen dubium (regular echinoid, possibly a chimera) |
Remarks | The species belone was established on the basis of spines only which are not diagnostic. Lambert (1912), on the basis of a test fragment from the same locality and also referring to Cotteau's drawings of the spines (illustrated here), established the genus Rhabdechinus. The test fragment is also indeterminate but may belong to a stomopneustid. There is no evidence that the spines and test are unambiguously associated. The genus is therefore a nomen dubium.
