Diagnostic Features
  • Test domal; ambitus a little below mid-height.
  • Apical disc small, plates not preserved in fossil material.
  • Ambulacral plating trigeminate throughout with pore-pairs uniserial throughout. Plate compounding style echinid. No phyllodes.
  • Primary tubercle on each compound plate. Deep and irregular perradial pitting in the form of horizontal wedge-shaped pits
  • Interambulacral plates wide, with a small central primary tubercle the remainder of the plate with small granules arranged in two or three horizontal rows.
  • Primary tubercles imperforate and non-crenulate.
  • Well-developed horizontal wedge-shaped pits on either side of primary tubercle.
  • Peristome small with only feeble buccal notches.
  • Perignathic girdle, lantern and spines unknown.

Upper Miocene - Pliocene, Iles de la Sonde, Indonesia.

Dicoptella agassizi Lambert, 1907, p. 17 [=Temnotrema sculptum A. Agassiz, 1863, p. 358 (pars)], by subsequent ddesignation of Lambert 7 Thiery, 1911, p. 233.
Species Included
Lambert & Jeannet (1935) assigned several species to this genus and gave a full description of the type species.
Classification and/or Status

Euechinoidea, Camarodonta; Temnopleuroida, Temnopleuridae.

Subjective junior synonym of Temnotrema Agassiz, 1869.

Remarks

Mortensen (1943) recognized that Lambert's type species was a mixture of forms synonymous with the type species of Temnotrema, T. sculptum and with T. bothryoides.
