Declana was originally placed in the Noctuidae.

Fletcher (1979) stated:-

This genus was originally proposed in the Noctuidae, but has since been transferred to the Geometridae; its first published use in this family appears to have been by Butler, 1877, Proc. zool. Soc. Lond. 1877: 398.
