From a multiple original spelling in which both * Calostigia and Colostygia (by implication as the singular form of Colostygiae) were used, Colostygia was the spelling adopted by the first reviser, Aurivillius, 1925, Ergebn. zweiten dt. Zent.-Afr.-Exped. 1910-1911 1 (Zool. 18): 1341, footnote.

Parsons et al. (1999) included AMOEBE Hübner, 1825; CALLISTIGIA Agassiz, 1847; ERINOBIA Stephens, 1850; EUPERIZOMA Warren, 1900; and PSEUDOBAPTRIA Inoue, 1982 as junior synonyms of COLOSTYGIA Hübner, 1825.

Parsons et al. (1999) included 29 species and 24 subspecies (inc. nominates) in the genus COLOSTYGIA.
