Nye (1975) stated:-

P. petroriza is a junior subjective synonym of Noctua detersa Esper, 1791, Die Schmett. 4 (1) 260, [no fig.]. Auchmis Hübner contained, as the first of the, originally included species, the following entry '2422. Auchmis petroriza Borkh. Noc. 143. comma Schiff. Verz. Noc. R. 9. Hübn. Noc. 251'. Warren cited the type-species as 'comma Schiff.' and included petorhiza Bkh.' (an incorrect subsequent spelling) in its synonymy. But 'comma [sensu] Schiff.' (although one of the, originally included names of Auchmis) was cited by [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775, Ankündung syst. Werkes Schmett. Wienergegend: 76 as 'Noctua comana L.' and was actually a misidentification of the Linnaean species (in the Hadeninae) and so has no nomenclatural status.

Incorrect type-species designation: Phalaena polyodon Clerck, 1759, a name not, originally included in Auchmis, and not linked with one of the, originally included names when cited by Hampson, 1894) Fauna Br. India (Moths) 2: 283.

Poole (1989) included RHIZOGRAMMA Lederer, 1857; EUSCOTIA Butler, 1889; TRICHORHIZA Hampson, 1905; and STENOSTIGMA Warren, 1910 as junior synonyms of AUCHMIS Hübner, 1821.
Poole (1989) included 11 species in the genus AUCHMIS
