T. postica was originally placed in the Notodontidae.

Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980, Generic Names of Moths of the World) stated:-

Thiacidas was established in the Notodontidae; it was placed in the Lymantriidae by Hampson, [1893] 1892, Fauna Br. India (Moths) 1: 445; and was transferred to the Noctuidae by Dyar, 1897, Can. Ent. 29: 12.

Poole (1989) included THIACIDAS in the subfamily OPHIDERINAE, treated as CALPINAE by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999).

Poole (1989) included only 1 species in the genus THIACIDAS.
