Fletcher (1979) stated:-

Thelycera was originally proposed as a subgenus of Mixocera Warren, 1901.

Thelycera Prout, 1912 was established to denote a subgenus of Mixocera Warren, 1910 and was raised to generic level by Hausmann, 1994, Atalanta (Markleuthen) 25 (3-4), Dezember : 581.

Parsons et al. (1999) included 2 species in the genus THELYCERA.
