This genus was originally proposed in the Castniidae, but was transferred to the Geometridae by Warren, 1897, Novit. zool. 4: 82.

Arycanda Walker, 1856 was treated as a valid subgenus of Cosmethis Hübner, [1820] 1816 being revalidated by Holloway, 1984 Bernice P. Bishop Museum Special Publication 72 : 161.

Parsons et al. (1999) included ARYCANDA Walker, 1856 [May 10]; COSMETHIS Hübner, 1820; DUGA Walker, 1865; PANAETHIA Guenée, 1858; and TIGRIDOPTERA Herrich-Schäffer, 1855 as junior synonyms of BRACCA Hübner, 1820.
