Hemming (1967) stated:-

Holland attributed this generic name to Watson in manuscript ; it was in fact not published by Watson until 1893 when it appeared in the spelling "Teiniorhinus" [sic, see below], being then treated as a new name, notwithstanding the fact that, as Watson designated watsoni Holland as type-species, he must have been aware that Holland had already published the name Teniorhinus.

Cowan (1968: 14) stated:-

TENIORHINUS, line 4: "Teiniorhinus" should read; Teinorhinus.

The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
