Nye & Fletcher (1991) included SYMMOCOIDES in the family SYMMOCIDAE, treated by Hodges, in Kristensen (1999) as a subfamily of AUTOSTICHIDAE.

Symmocoides was established in the Gelechiidae; it was included in the Gelechiidae Symmocinae, now Symmocidae, by Gozmany, 1957, Annls hist.-nat. Mus. natn. hung. (S.N.) 8: 341.
