Nye & Fletcher (1991) included SYMMOCA in the family SYMMOCIDAE, treated by Hodges, in Kristensen (1999) as a subfamily of AUTOSTICHIDAE.

Nye & Fletcher (1991) stated:-

Symmoca was included in the "Gelechiadae", by Fletcher, 1929, Mem. Dep. Agric. India (Ent.) 11: 212; it was transferred to the Gelechiidae Symmocinae by Gozmany, 1957, Annls hist.-nat. Mus. natn. hung. (S.N.) 8: 326.
