Watson, Fletcher & Nye (1980) stated:-

Sphetta was established in the Notodontidae; it was placed in the Noctuidae by Hampson, 1894, Fauna Br. India (Moths) 2: 166.

Sphetta was treated in the Noctuidae, Acronictinae/Amphipyrinae in Nye 1975, Generic Names Moths World, 1 : 455.

Sphetta Walker, was referred to the Notodontidae from the Noctuidae by Holloway, 1989, Malayan Nature Journal 42 (2-3) : 208.

Poole (1989) included SPHETTA in the subfamily AMPHIPYRINAE, subsequently restricted to the genus AMPHIPYRA by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999). Other genera formerly treated in the subfamily AMPHIPYRINAE are treated as HADENINAE by Kitching & Rawlins (loc. cit.).
