Nye (1975) stated:-

S. recurvicornis is a junior subjective synonym of Homoptera stipatura Walker, 1858, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 15: 1800.

Poole (1989) included SMYRA in the subfamily OPHIDERINAE, treated as CALPINAE by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999).

Poole (1989) included 4 species in the genus SMYRA.
