Similipepsis Le Cerf, 1911 was designated as the type-genus for the new tribe Similipepsini (Tinthiinae - Sesiidae), by Spatenka, Lastuvka, Gorbunov, Tosevski & Arita, 1993, Nachrichten des Entomologischen Vereins Apollo 14 (2) : 86.

SIMILIPEPSIS was included within the subfamily SESIIDAE: TINTHIINAE by Kristensen (1999).
