Nye & Fletcher (1991) included SCEPTEA in the family SYMMOCIDAE, treated by Hodges, in Kristensen (1999) as a subfamily of AUTOSTICHIDAE.

Nye & Fletcher (1991) stated:-

Sceptea was included in the "Gelechiadae" by Fletcher, 1929, Mem. Dep. Agric. India (Ent.) 11: 199; it was placed in the Blastobasidae Symmocinae, now Symmocidae, by Hodges, 1983, in Hodges et al., Check List Lepid. Am. N. of Mexico: 14.
