Fletcher (1979) stated:-

This genus was originally proposed in the Nyctemeridae (now Arctiidae), but has since been transferred to the Epiplemidae, where it was placed by Leech, 1897, ibidem (6) 19: 189.

Pyschostrophia was treated in the Epiplemidae by Fletcher 1979, Generic Names Moths World, 3 : 178.

Psychostrophia Butler, 1877, was referred to the new subfamily Schistomitrinae within the Epiplemidae as the type-genus by Inoue, Sugi, Kuroko, Moriuti and Kawabe, 1982, Moths of Japan, 1 : 576.

PSYCHOSTROPHIA was included within the family EPICOPEIIDAE by Minet & Scoble, in Kristensen (1999).
