Fletcher (1979) stated:-

The name was originally published as * Psoidos and emended in 1827 to Psodos. Under the plenary powers of the Int. Commn zool. Nom., 1973, Bull. zool. Nom. 30 Opinion 995: 21, the emendations to Psodos of the generic name * Psoidos. Treitschke, 1825, was validated and placed on the Official List of Generic Names in Zoology with the Name Number 1974.

P. equestrata is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena quadrifaria Sulzer, 1776, Abgek. Gesch. Ins. Linn. 1: 162, which has been placed on the Official List of Specific Names in Zoology with the Name Number 2495.

Psodos (an emendation of Psoidos Treitschke, 1825) was proposed as the valid name for Psoidos by Cowan, 1970, The Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature, 27 (2) : 102. Also a proposal was made to place Psoidos on the List of Rejected and Invalid Names in Zoology. This proposal was granted using the Plenary Power's of the Commision in 1973 (Opinion 995) and Psoidos was placed on the Official Index of Invalid Generic Names in Zoology, The Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature 30 (1) : 21. Under the same Opinion Psodos Treitschke, 1825 was placed on the Official List of Generic Names in Zoology and Phalaena quadrifaria (type-species of Psodos) was placed on the Specific Names in Zoology. Psoidos was designated as an Incorrect Subsequent Spelling of Psodos under the Commissions Plenary Powers.

Parsons et al. (1999) included COELIBATES Gistl, 1848; PSOETHUS Agassiz, 1847; PSOLOS Berthet, 1938; PSOTHOS Spuler, 1910; PSOTHUS Agassiz, 1847; SPODOS Sodoffsky, 1837; and TORULA Boisduval, 1840 as junior synonyms of PSODOS Treitschke, 1825.

Parsons et al. (1999) included 6 species and 3 subspecies (inc. nominates) in the genus PSODOS.
