Hemming (1967) stated:-

The taxon represented by the nominal species Papilio baton Bergstrasser is currently treated subjectively on taxonomic grounds as being the same as that represented by the nominal species Papilio hylacter Bergstrasser, [1779] (loc. cit. 2 : 78, pl. 47, figs 7, 8 - male). Although these names were published in the same year by the same author, the First Reviser principle cannot be applied in this case, for the fact that the name Papilio hylactor was published in vol. 2 of the Nom. Ins., whereas the name Papilio baton was not published until vol. 3 makes it clear that that name has actual priority over the name Papilio baton.

The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
