This genus was originally proposed in the Orthostixinae (now Oenochrominae), but was transferred to the Pseudoterpninae (now Geometrinae) by Warren, 1894, Novit. zool. 1: 681.

Parsons et al. (1999) included ARCHAEOPSEUSTES Warren, 1894 as a junior synonym of PACHYODES Guenée, 1857.
