Fletcher & Nye (1984) stated:-

From a multiple original spelling in which both Psammotis (by implication, the singular form of Psammotes) and * Psamotis were used by Hübner on page 350 and Psammotis was used in the index, [1826] 1816 ibidem (Anz.): 58, Meyrick, 1890 Trans. ent. Soc. Lond. 1890: 448, the first reviser, adopted Psammotis as the correct spelling.
