Fletcher (1979) stated:-

This genus was originally proposed in the Drepanidae, but was transferred to the Bombycidae by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 932.

Fletcher & Nye (1982, Generic Names of Moths of the World) stated:-

Prothysana was established in the Drepanulidae, now Drepanidae; it was placed in the Bombycidae by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 932. The New World Bombycidae are now included in the Apatelodidae, so Prothysana is here transferred to that family.

Becker, V.O., 2001, The identity of some unrecognized Neotropical Bombycoidea (Lepidoptera) described by Francis Walker. Revta bras. Zool. 18: 153-157 included Compsa Walker, 1862.; Mesotages Felder, 1874; Tarchon Druce, 1887; and Zolessia Biezanko & Monné, 1968 as new synonyms of Prothysana Walker, 1855.
