Westwood's type-species designation was ignored by Hampson, 1913, Cat. Lepid Phalaenae Br. Mus. 13: 452, who cited as type-species Phalaena festucae Linnaeus, 1758, and based a subfamily Phytometrinae (now known as the Plusiinae) on this concept.

N. aenea is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena viridaria Clerck, 1759, Icones Insect. rariorum 1: pl. 9, fig. 12.

Phytometra Haworth, 1809 was designated as the type-genus for the newly proposed Phytometrini by Wiltshire, 1990, Fauna of Saudi Arabia 11 : 232.

Poole (1989) included PHYTOMETRA in the subfamily OPHIDERINAE, treated as CALPINAE by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999).

Poole (1989) included ANTARCHAEA Hübner, 1821; PROTHYMIA Hübner, 1823; NANTHILDA Blanchard, 1840; PSEUDOMICRA Butler, 1892; and PYRALIDESTHES Warren, 1913 as junior synonyms of PHYTOMETRA Haworth, 1809.
