When Phrudocentra was established, the only included nominal species, Phrudocentra pupillata, was a nomen nudum.

Parsons et al. (1999) included MELOCHLORA Warren, 1901; and NESIPOLA Warren, 1909 as junior synonyms of PHRUDOCENTRA Warren, 1895.

Parsons et al. (1999) included 34 species and 15 subspecies (inc. nominates) in the genus PHRUDOCENTRA.
