When proposed, the genus contained a second species that was doubtfully included which, under Article 67(h) of the Code, is not eligible for delection as type-species.

S. phaeoleucaria is a junior subjective synonym of Fidonia serrularia Eversmann, 1847, Bull. Soc. imp. Nat. Moscou 20 (3): 81, pl.6, fig.6.

Parsons et al. (1999) included 8 species and 8 subspecies (inc. nominates) in the genus PHASELIA.
