Fletcher (1979) stated:-

This genus was originally proposed in the Drepanidae, but has since been transferred to the Saturniidae; its first published use in this family appears to have been by Schaus, 1921, Insecutor Inscit. menstr. 9: 173.

Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated:-

Lemaire, 1973, Annls Soc. ent. Fr. (N.S.) 8 (4): 812, placed Periga as a subgenus of Lonomia Walker, 1855. Periga was established in the Drepanulidae, Drepanidae; it was placed in the Lasiocampidae by Kirby, 1892, Synonymic Cat. Lepid. Heterocera 1: 803; and in the Saturniidae by Schaus, 1921, Insecutor Inscit. menstr. 9: 173.

PERIGA was included within the subfamily SATURNIIDAE: HEMILEUCINAE by Lemaire & Minet, in Kristensen (1999).
