Lectotype Desig. by:Nye, 1975, Generic Names Moths World 1: 374

Notes:
Nye (1975) stated:-

P. pectitalis is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena (Geometra) strigilata Linnaeus, 1758, Syst. Nat. (Edn. 10) l: 528; LECTOTYPE - female, Europe, pin-label data 'strigilata' (LS, London). Designated by Nye, GNMW Vol 1 [examined]. Invalid type-species designation: P. pectitalis was cited by Grote, 1896, Proc. Am. phil. Soc. 34: 424 as 'unknown to me, may be the type'. A designation made in a qualified manner is invalid under the Code, Article 67(c).

Incorrect type-species designation: Phalaenea barbalis Clerck, 1759 (but cited as P. barbalis L., an incorrect authorship), designated by Westwood, 1840, Synopsis Genera Br. Insects: 105, for *`Pechitogon Hb.' an incorrect subsequent spelling. One of the species originally included by Hübner in Pachipogon was cited as 'Pechipogo Plumigeralis. Barbalis Hübn. Pyr. 18'. This species is distinct from P. barbalis Clerck, so the designation by Westwood is of a non-included species; neither was it synonymised with one of the, originally included species.

Poole (1989) included HERMINIA Latreille, 1802; PECHIPOGO Hübner, 1825; POGONITIS Sodoffsky, 1837; PECHYPOGON Agassiz, 1847; ZANCLOGNATHA Lederer, 1857; HIPOEPA Walker, 1859; MEGACHYTA Grote, 1873; PITYOLITA Grote, 1873; CLEPTOMITA Grote, 1873; MESOPLECTRA Butler, 1879; and ADRAPSOIDES Matsumura, 1925 as junior synonyms of POLYPOGON Schrank, 1802.
