Parascotia was referred from the Herminiinae to the Catocalinae within the Noctuidae by Tikhomirov, 1979, Trudy Zoologicheskogo Instituta Akademii Nauk SSSR 82 : 82.

Nye (1975) stated:-

G. carbonaria is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena fuliginaria Linnaeus, 1761, Fauna Suecica (Edn 2): 327.
