Parabryophila was proposed as the objective replacement name for Bryophilopsis Dyar, 1920.

Poole (1989) included PARABRYOPHILA in the subfamily AMPHIPYRINAE, restricted to the genus AMPHIPYRA by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999). Other genera formerly treated in the AMPHIPYRINAE are included in the HADENINAE by Kitching & Rawlins (1999).

Poole (1989) included BRYOPHILOPSIS Dyar, 1920 as a junior synonym of PARABRYOPHILA Dyar, 1921.

Poole (1989) included only 1 species in the genus PARABRYOPHILA.
