Niphonympha was established as an objective replacement name for Calantica Zeller, 1847, a junior homonym.

Niphonympha was included in the Plutellidae by Fletcher, 1929, Mem. Dep. Agric. India (Ent.) 11: 148; it was transferred to the Yponomeutidae by Friese, 1960, Beitr. Ent. 10: 38.
