Nesara was established in the Limacodidae; it was placed in the Lasiocampidae by Draudt, 1928, in Seitz, Gross-Schmett. Erde 6: 619.

NESARA was included within the subfamily LASIOCAMPIDAE: MACROMPHALIINAE by Lemaire & Minet, in Kristensen (1999).
