Nereisana was proposed as the objective replacement name for Pseudosterrha Rebel, 1901.

Poole (1989) included NEREISANA in the subfamily AMPHIPYRINAE, subsequently restricted to the genus AMPHIPYRA by Kitching & Rawlins, in Kristensen (1999). Other genera formerly treated in the subfamily AMPHIPYRINAE are treated as HADENINAE by Kitching & Rawlins (loc. cit.).

Poole (1989) included PSEUDOSTERRHA Rebel, 1901 (preoccupied); and NOTHOSTERRHA Warrren, 1912 as junior synonyms of NEREISANA Strand, 1911.

Poole (1989) included only 1 species in the genus NEREISANA.
