Fletcher (1979) stated:-

Neotherina was nomenclaturally available from its date of publication by Dognin in 1913; two nominal species were included, N. inconspicua sp.n. and N. axion (Druce), 1892. Neotherina was not a nomen nudum, as stated by Neave, 1950, Nomencl. zool. 5: 173.

Parsons et al. (1999) included 5 species in the genus NEOTHERINA.
