Syntypes - male & female BRAZIL & U.S.A. & JAMAICA: Para & W. Coast, (BMNH, London).. A total of 3 male & female syntypes from Jamaica, Brazil & the west coast of America are deposited in the BMNH.

Nye (1975) stated:-

N. phryganealis is a junior subjective synonym of Phalaena clara Stoll, 1781, in Cramer, Uitlandsche Kapellen 4: 133, pl. 358, fig. 1. Nagara when, originally proposed contained a second species, but this was doubtfully included and, under the Code, Article 68 (c), is not eligible for selection as type-species.

Nagara Walker, [1866] 1865 was treated as a valid genus (Gen. Rev.) being brought out of synonymy by Holloway, 1985 Malayan Nature Journal 38 (3-4) : 225.

Poole (1989) included 5 species in the genus NAGARA.
