Hemming (1967) stated:-

Scudder in 1875 (Proc. amer. Acad. Arts Sci., Boston 10 : 150) selected Papilio metis Linnaeus to be the type-species of the genus Cyclopides Hübner, [1819], but this action was invalid, since by selection by Butler (1870, Ent. mon. Mag. 7 : 96) an entirely different species (Papilio slopes [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) was already the type-species of that genus. This misusage was followed by subsequent authors, Watson in 1893 (Proc. zool. Soc. Lond. 1893 : 90) providing a diagnosis for this genus under the erroneous name Cyclopides. The genus remained without an available name until in 1934 I established the nominal genus Metisella, based on the characters provided by Watson in 1893.

METISELLA was included within the subfamily HESPERIIDAE: HETEROPTERINAE by Ackery et al., in Kristensen (1999).

The higher classification used here follows Lamas (2008).
