Fletcher & Nye (1984) stated:-

Mestolobes was established in the Botididae, now Pyralidae Pyraustinae; it was placed in the Pyralidae Scopariinae by Hampson, 1897 Trans. ent. Soc. Lond. 1897: 228; placed close to Cybalomia Lederer, 1863, in the Pyralidae Cybalomiinae by Munroe 1958 December [31], Proc. 10th int. Congr. Ent. 1: 831; and transferred to the Pyralidae Crambinae by Zimmerman, 1958 December 31 Insects Hawaii 8: 296. It was retained in the Crambinae by Bleszynski & Collins, 1962 Acta zool cracov. 7: 322.

MESTOLOBES was included within the subfamily CRAMBIDAE: CRAMBINAE by Munroe & Solis, in Kristensen (1999).
